Okay, so this blogging thing is pretty cool because you can talk without being interrupted.  A girl loves that sometimes…..

So, the founders at Moxy had a very interesting time opening our business account a few weeks ago.  If you wondered, yes we are legit, we accept donations supporting the cause, and checks can be written to Moxy Publications…. :) So anyway, the teller at the bank was telling us some crazy stuff!  She wanted each one of us to open personal accounts, and then made up a minimum balance that we had to maintain!   That teller was feeding us blatant lies, baby!  We were like, “what?!”  Gut (and plain common sense) told us to get up and take our business elsewhere.  We called corporate HQ and they were telling us what we assumed before, that personal accounts were not required to open a business account. Wow, that was crazy, none of us had been ever treated like that before.  It took us back to the saying that maybe our money wasn’t “green” enough….

But what was cool was that we were all on the same page, and got up and left when we felt uncomfortable.  Moxy United!  We took our lady power to a different bank branch about 1.5 mi down the road and opened our account there.  Our teller was mad cool and hooked us up. It took us about 2 hours longer, but our mission was accomplished.

Fast forward a couple of days, when we called the branch manager of the no-good teller and let her know what happened.  She was extremely responsive and receptive to what we had to say.  She followed up with the teller and got back to us the next day with an apology.  Now we know full well that the teller had probably played that game before, but maybe now that we made a complaint she will think twice before doing it again.  It really let us know that we do have a say in how we are treated, regardless of what preconceived notions others may have when four giggling 20 somethings burst into a bank wanting some service. 

So we encourage you to stand up and and ask questions when something seems a little fishy to you.  We YPW (young professional women) sometimes keep quiet because it’s our first time experiencing something and we don’t necessarily know how it’s supposed to go.  If anything have confidence in your gut feelings, they may not be scientifically explainable, but they are there for a reason!

Well, we are launched, but now the hard work really starts!  We are getting ready for our second issue to come out in December.  We are looking for writers and photographers to contribute their work gratis, but of course we give credit where credit is due.  Two to three articles, 500 words or less.  Email us at contact_us@moxymagazine.com if you are interested.  We are also exploring RSS feeds for each topic, in order to keep the news a little more fresh on the site.  We’d write new articles everyday, but ya’ll know we got day jobs and such.
